This week we're looking at the two creation narratives in Genesis: the "P" writer's version in Genesis 1: 1-2: 3 and the "J" writer in Genesis 2: 4-3: 24. Both stories are based on Ancient Israel's cultural myths, which are narratives designed to convey truth.
If you were asked to write your own creation story, how would you word it? I would be more likely to talk about other creations that I had a part in (my children), which is more vivid in my memory than my own birth (get the joke?).
To what part of creation are you connected?

As someone in the physical sciences I see God's creating work in the physical world. The Universe is so huge and complex yet has order and structure. Much about it is dependable and it operates according to strict rules that we can uncover and understand. But there is still so much that we don't understand yet it all still works and that points to the mind of God.
It is also important to see God's continuing creation. This shows up for example in the cycle of life, especially as we observe children and watch them turn from babies into adults. And in all the new things that come into being all the time. God makes all things new. And God gives us an opportunity to take part in his ongoing creation. But if we decline to participate, God will find a way to make it happen without us.
